Step 4: The Power of Water
We are made mostly of water.
Next to the breath, water is your most important constituent. While
you can go for weeks without food (if you had to), you can only live for
minutes without breathing and only days without water.
What is the magic of water?
It helps to maintain your balance of acid and base. Water carries
nutrients into your body and wastes out. Water also helps to maintain
the proper temperature of the body.
When you are under a lot of
stress or need a quick energy boost, try the following:
Drink a large, cold glass of
water. Drink it from top to bottom without stopping. Then go
urinate.
Here's how it works.
By going to get the water you'll disengage from the stressful activity.
When you drink the water non-stop you'll change your rate of breathing—remember
that the slower you breathe, the calmer you'll feel. Making the water
cold will change your body temperature and “cool you off,” helping dispel
any anger or stress.
A lot of our stress and frustration
is mediated by our nervous and hormone (messenger) systems. By drinking
water you change the hormone balance. Similarly, when you urinate
you also will change the water balance in your body.
(Review last month's newsletter
in the section Herbs
and Nutrition for Health where I talk about how much water
to drink)
Bonus Tip
Stop Depression With Water
Here's a quick and easy way
to utilize the power of water. When you're feeling fatigued, wash
your face with cold water. If you're feeling depressed, splash the
cold water into your eyes. This will quickly bring you into a new,
more relaxed state.
Bonus Tip 2
Bedtime Secrets
Its often hard to get to sleep
due to the fact that we haven't released the stress that has built up in
us all day. In addition to left
nostril breathing (click here to review this topic), use water:
Sit on the edge of your bathtub
and turn on only the cold water. Put your feet under the cold running
water. Briskly massage your feet using your feet: rub your
feet all over each other, rub the soles together. After you've done
this for 30-60 seconds, roughly dry and stimulate your feet with a coarse
towel.
Feel refreshed? Now enjoy
your deep sleep!!
Herbs and Nutrition
for Health
Drink your water(melon)
One of the most irritating
problems you can have is a kidney or bladder infection. Allopathic
medicine recommends antibiotics routinely for these urinary tract infections.
Want to try an alternative method?
If you access to a juicer,
juice watermelon (without the rind) and drink about one cup of the juice
(diluted in half) 3-4 times daily. This is very cleansing to the
urinary tract, but be careful not to wander too far from the bathroom because
watermelon is a potent diuretic!
Another recipe from the Ayurvedic
tradition of medicine is to take 2 tablespoons of watermelon seeds and
boil them for 5 minutes in a pint of water. Turn off the heat and
leave the pot uncovered and let it stand until cold. Drink one cup
3-4 times per day during the acute phase. After things have stabilized,
drink 3-4 cups per week. (Note: Ayurvedic medicine says that
this remedy is for women only.)

of disease and premature aging and the principle-centered health steps
you can take to slow the natural progression of aging and disease.
We will cover the Three
Steps to Total Well Being:

Designing a health regimen tailored
to your specific needs including exercise, diets for cleansing, the power
of detoxifying, proper use of supplements, herbs and enzymes
-
Creating a lifestyle that supports
long term wellness
