Acupuncture Analysis
As with all
the care we offer, we're always looking for more effective and more
efficient ways to help you improve your health. We are now
introducing
a new analysis tool to help determine the state of health or imbalance
of
your acupuncture meridian system.
This tool is called ELECTRO
MERIDIAN IMAGING (EMI). If your meridians (energy
channels) are imbalanced you'll
have health problems. The EMI acts as an early warning sign which
can help prevent health problems before they get started.
It's a simple, painless, quick
test used to determine which meridians have too much energy, not enough
energy and which are balanced . We can then prescribe a specific
acupuncture treatment plan.
From the EMI we're able to determine which
acupuncture points need to be stimulated to bring your body back into
balance. You'll then feel better, more energetic and have less
pain.
To introduce you to this amazing new
technology and to find out how you can
better balance your health by utilizing the acupuncture system,
please call our office at 770-551-0155 to
receive your first EMI exam at no charge. ($25 value)
Please Explain...
What Is
Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an
ancient system of healing used for thousands of years to balance and
harmonize life energy or Qi (chee). By balancing and building the
body's Qi, acupuncturists are able to correct physical, emotional and
stress-related disorders. Acupuncturists focus on determining
fundamental
causes of a person's pain or disease and treat each person as a
mind/body/spirit
whole.
How does acupuncture
work?
Qi flows through your body along precise pathways called meridians or
channels. When the Qi in your body is balanced and flows
properly, you are healthy. When the Qi is
imbalanced, you experience distress and illness.
Can acupuncture be effective when other treatments
have failed? Absolutely!
Each system of medicine has
its own areas of greatest effectiveness. Acupuncture often excels
in those areas in which conventional medicine comes up short.
Chronic
disease, pain control, and stress related disorders are only three of
acupuncture's specialties.
Is it painful? Is it
safe?
To eliminate the risk of infection, the acupuncture
needles used in our clinic are all sterile and disposable.
In most cases, insertion of the needle is performed
without discomfort. Usually, the pain of putting an acupuncture
needle in is similar to a mosquito bite. Most patients find the
treatments very relaxing and rejuvenating and many fall asleep during
treatment.
What can acupuncture
help?
Acupuncture is widely known
to relieve pain, but its range is much broader than pain relief
alone. Acupuncture can be helpful in alleviating both chronic and
acute conditions and you don't need to have a specific problem to
benefit from acupuncture care.

Acupuncture
treatments
can also assist those seeking personal growth and greater inner
peace.
In addition, acupuncture is excellent for preventative health care and
maintenance. Many people receive care on a quarterly basis to
tone
their body.

Don't Buy
Duct Tape, Get a Massage
Life is
stressful. Especially when things are beyond your own personal
control. Remember the last time you had a peaceful, quiet hour of
rest and relaxation, quiet soothing music, and a gentle massage?
If you do,
get back and get another.
If not, now’s the time
to sign yourself up. We have massages available Monday through
Saturday (except Thursday). Call 770-551-0155 today to schedule
your massage.
One of our talented
therapists is Christina Claffey. Christina
graduated from the Academy of somatic Healing Arts (ASHA) in May 2000.
She has extensive knowledge of anatomy, nutrition and
hydrotherapy.
She is certified in Swedish, Sports and Neuromuscular therapies.
Swedish massage is a
relaxation massage. There are many benefits including stress reduction,
decreased blood pressure and increased circulation.
Sports massage includes
using stretches, heat/ice therapy and vigorous firm pressure on
specific muscles. This type of massage is great for athletes before and
after event and during training to minimize injuries.
Neuromuscular therapy
(NMT) uses firm pressure on specific muscles to bring the body back
into balance. Benefits include pain reduction, better posture and
less stress.
The most common
misconception about massage is that it's a luxury for people who want
to feel pampered. Massage, especially NMT, can be very beneficial to
anyone seeking relief from the stresses of everyday life.
P.S. Don't forget
about your loved ones, too. We have massage gift certificates
available.

Herbs and Nutrition for
Health
What to Do During Hayfever Season
What Is
Hayfever?
Hay fever is when you have an allergic reaction
triggered by inhaled substances (usually pollens). Symptoms
include frequent sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and irritated, itchy
and red eyes.
The allergic reaction causes your body to make
antibodies which try to fight off the foreign invader. Your body
then releases histamine and other chemicals which are stored in mast
cells. This release causes the symptoms.
Natural
Treatments
Natural treatments for hay fever direct their efforts at stabilizing
the mast cells so they don't rupture so easily. This prevents the
release of the histamine.
Effective anti-histamines include some of the bioflavonoids like
quercitin ( found in onions, apples, and black
tea), and catechin (green tea).
Vitamin
C is also a natural anti-histamine. Be sure to use a vitamin C
that specifically has the bioflavonoid complex included. C-500
Methoxyflavone from Metagenics is a wonderful allergy, hayfever and
asthma product.
Also, be sure to try herbs like eyebright herb (euphrasia officinalis),
echinacea (Echinacea purpurea), and
albizia (albizia lebbek bark).
EYEBRIGHT helps normalize the mucus secretions of the nose and gives
your body a proper chance to fight environmental stressors. It
also helps the itching and redness of the
eyes.
ECHINACEA enhances the immune system and specifically helps the upper
respiratory system.
ALBIZIA helps assist the body in keeping your breathing passages free
and clear.
REMEMBER
TO ELIMINATE DAIRY PRODUCTS, REFINED CARBOHYDRATES AND
REDUCE YOUR CONSUMPTION OF COFFEE AND ALCOHOL
Add 6-8 glasses of water to
keep your body hydrated and cleansing. Start your regime before the
allergy
season is in full swing.
When you should start these
herbal and vitamin protocols? BEFORE the hayfever season
hits.
The idea is to build your body up before it is inundated by all the
pollens and pollution in the air.

Recipe of the Month
Beet
and Carrot Casserole
This very tasty
recipe is wonderful for the health and cleansing of your liver.
1 bunch beets
1 lb. carrots
2 bunches scallions chopped
3 cloves minced garlic
4 -6 Tbs. olive oil or ghee (clarified butter)
Braggs Liquid Aminos and black pepper to taste
Grated cheddar or soy cheese to taste
Scrub beets and carrots. Steam beets whole. When half done (ten to
twenty minutes) add the peeled carrots. Cook until tender yet firm.
After they
cool, remove beet skins. (They slide off easily).
Grate beets and carrots with a coarse grinder. Mix them together
loosely (so the colors stay distinct).
Sauté the scallions and garlic in the olive oil. Toss this
mixture with the beets and carrots,Braggs and black pepper. Put in a
casserole
dish. Cover with grated cheese and bake until the cheese is golden.
Your
Inner
Peace
Meditation
For Strong Nerves
Our
lives are becoming more and more hectic. It's hard to keep up
with demands of our jobs, our family, and now all the
external pressures of war and peace. Practice this meditation so
you have a calm mind and strong nerves. It will help to protect
you
from irrationality.
Males: Either
sit cross legged on the floor or comfortably in a chair with your spine
erect. Hold
the right hand at ear level with the thumb tip and tip of the ring
finger touching (fingernails do not touch). Place the left hand in the
lap with the thumb tip and tip of the little finger touching. Women
should reverse the position so that the left hand
has the thumb and ring finger touching with the hand at ear level and
the
right hand is in the lap with the thumb and little finger touching.
Close
your eyes most of the way—leave them opened just a crack (1/10th
open). Breathe in and out slowly, deeply and quietly .
Using your watch, practice this meditation for 3 minutes. With
practice, increase the time to 11 minutes and, if you want, eventually
to 31 minutes.
To end the meditation, inhale deeply, open your fingers, raise your
hands above your head and shake them vigorously. Continue shaking your
hands
as you exhale completely and hold your breath out. Once again,
inhale, shake and exhale and shake. Then relax.
Note: This is one of five meditations given
specifically to prepare for these times of turmoil by Yoga Master
Yogi Bhajan.
Mukta Kaur Khalsa has
practiced and taught Kundalini Yoga since 1974. Please call 770.399.6424

upcoming Teacher Training course.
