Is Your Computer
a Pain in the...?
If you spend much time in front of your computer, you know
exactly what I mean. Your eyes are tired, teary and achy. You've got
a headache. Your back hurts--pick any area from your neck and
shoulders to your lower back. Your hands hurt or are numb. You have
an irresistible urge to throw the darn thing right out the window.
Try this simple tip:
Set a timer for 30 minutes and every time it rings, adjust your
chair. Move it up an inch or down two inches. The exact amount
doesn't matter. The benefit is that your arms will be in new
position in relation to the keyboard and/or desk, and your eyes will
be in new position in relation to your monitor. It'll be like having
a whole new environment every half hour.
(Whatever height you pick, be sure your feet are supported by the
floor or a stool. Unsupported feet will create strain on your back.)
Other similar fixes? Raise or lower the armrests. Move the seat back
forward or backward. Cross your legs if they've been uncrossed or
uncross them if they've been crossed. Stretch up and shake out your
hands for a minute. Take a few long, deep breaths. Drink a tall
glass of water.
Just do anything to change your state. You'll physically make it
easier on your body and you'll prevent future, painful problems.
You'll also refresh your fried brain so you can be more creative,
more alert, more productive and mentally sharper.
These ideas only take 30 to 90 seconds of your time every half hour;
a small price to pay for huge benefits.
